No10 claims Sunak-Biden talks not “low-key” after White House cuts bilateral event to coffee meeting 2023

It has been refuted by Downing Street that the discussions that Rishi Sunak is having with Joe Biden this week are taking place in a “low-key” manner.

A spokesman for No. 10 Downing Street told reporters, in response to a question about whether or not their interaction would be reduced from a bilateral event to a less formal coffee meeting as reported by the White House, “The prime minister will meet with President Biden to discuss areas of mutual interest.”

When asked why the plans seemed to be on the low end of the priority list, he responded, “I wouldn’t characterize it as way. As I’ve already stated, the prime minister will talk to him tonight, and then he’ll meet him again the next day.

“As you are aware, the president’s actions over his tenure have provided ample evidence that our relationship is quite tight. His first trip outside of North America was to the United Kingdom, where he had the honor of meeting both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, Prince of Wales.

“Our ongoing professional interactions with the White House and the federal government in the United States continue to be quite fruitful.”
