Suchart Tancharoen, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, was officially inducted into the Pheu Thai Party on Wednesday. He was a member of the Palang Pracharath Party in the past, which is the party that is currently in charge of the caretaker administration.
Pheu Thai leaders greeted 65-year-old Mr. Suchart at the party headquarters.
The leader of the Pheu Thai party, Cholnan Srikaew, stated that Mr. Suchart has served as a delegate for the province of Chachoengsao nine times. During his time as a member of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party, which was an earlier iteration of the Pheu Thai party, he served as both a deputy interior minister and a deputy leader. In 2007, Thai Rak Thai was disbanded after suspicions of electoral fraud surfaced against the party.
Before switching to the Palang Pracharath Party, Mr. Suchart and his associates were members of the Bhumjaithai Party.
Mr. Suchart stated on Wednesday that he did not have any reservations about joining Pheu Thai. According to him, it was like going back to his childhood home, which had been there for him throughout his political career and provided support for it for almost a decade.
