A Ministerial Meeting Between Iran and Saudi Arabia Is Being Arranged, a Spokesperson Says 2023

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Plans are being prepared for a meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia following the recent decision to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries, according to Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have decided to convene a fresh round of negotiations at a higher level than the last ones, which culminated in a rapprochement deal in Beijing, according to Kanaani.

He mentioned that the Iranian and Saudi foreign ministries are coordinating contacts for a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Saudi colleague Faisal bin Farhan.

Kanaani also highlighted the good consequences of the détente between Iran and Riyadh on regional developments, stating, “The results of diplomacy have been quite clear. The accord between Iran and Saudi Arabia has demonstrated the efficacy of diplomatic approaches to resolving differences.”

The official stated that the reconciliation will have additional beneficial regional effects, particularly on Iran’s relations with other nations, hence increasing the likelihood of improved relations between Iran and Bahrain.

Iran and Saudi Arabia decided on Friday, after days of intense negotiations in Beijing, to reestablish their diplomatic ties and reopen their embassies and diplomatic posts within a maximum of two months.
