Remove religion from politics, eliminate hate speech: SC 2023

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court noted countrywide hate speeches and said they will end when politicians stop using religion in politics. The top court branded hate speech a “vicious circle” and urged against it, blaming fringe members.

Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna remarked Jawaharlal Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were heard by people from all around. Judges battled Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Religion in politics is a big problem. Separating politics and religion solves this.

Politicians won’t use religion anymore. Our recent ruling stressed that mixing politics and religion is dangerous for democracy ““Everyday extreme groups are making comments to defame others including on TV and public forums,” the Bench said while hearing a contempt suit against multiple state administrations, including Maharashtra, for failing to lodge FIRs.

The court and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta clashed over an inflammatory slogan uttered in Kerala during a PFI-linked organization’s protest against Hindu and Christian communities.

Remove religion from politics and hate speech will cease

“We are upholding the Constitution and orders in every instance are bricks in the construction of rule of law,” the bench said, alluding to similar utterances. State inactivity compels the contempt petition.

“Can’t say such about any State but Central is not,” Mehta said. “Centre outlawed PFI. Please alert Kerala to respond.”

When asked to continue, Mehta implored, “Please do not do this.” Why are we avoiding the footage? Why can’t I play the speech video in court? Why Kerala cannot be notified and included in the case. Be impartial. Displaying public domain clip.

“This is legal proceedings,” he added. Mehta, submit it.

During the contempt petition hearing, Judge Nagarathna said, “We need to assess where we as a country are going? Jawaharlal Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave midnight speeches. These leaders attracted people from far-flung places. Fraternity is crumbling. Restraint is needed.

Now fringe groups from both parties are making similar claims and we are being expected to take contempt proceedings against these people.” She asked how a court can curb “intellectual deprivation” from lack of information and education.

“How much disdain we can endure from these individuals. I inquired how the apex court would handle this the other day. Why start with the Supreme Court? Speech restriction is needed to become the India we want.

“Why cannot the residents of this nation sign a promise to not condemn others and what type of joys we are obtaining by making these speeches?” she asked. The top court told the Hindu Samaj, which had rallied in Maharashtra, that “Statements are being made by few persons, which great majority of community do not agree to.””

If you break the law, you’ll fall like a brick. To succeed and become a superpower, we must follow the law.
