Politicians believe they control the judiciary – Aisha Yesufu 2023

Aisha Yesufu, a well-known social critic in Nigeria, has criticized the political elites for “thinking they own the judiciary just as they once thought they owned the electoral process.” She said this in reference to the elites’ attitude toward the electoral process.

According to Yesufu, the lack of involvement by residents was what provided the government the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of illegal activities.

Politicians believe the courts are in their hands.

It would appear that she was reacting to anything that was said during President Bola Tinubu’s “Democracy Day” address to the country.

Tinubu made the following statement: “It has become imperative to state here that the unnecessary illegal orders that are used to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated.”

On the other side, the advocate for good governance stated that the situation has changed in a statement that she published via her verified Twitter handle on Monday. She added that this was due to the increased participation of citizens in political processes.

In a written statement, she stated, “They think they own the judiciary just as they once thought they owned the electoral process.”

“The lack of participation on the part of the citizens is what gave them the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of unlawful activities,” she said. Citizens are taking part in the process at this time.
