Abbas Aliabadi’s nomination as Iran’s next Minister of Industry was given the go light by the Iranian Parliament.
On Tuesday, the Iranian parliamentarians discussed Aliabadi’s qualities as a nominee for the position of head of the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade.
Aliabadi, 62 years old, was elected with 187 votes in favor, 58 votes against, and 8 abstentions. He was sworn into office.
In April, a vote of no confidence was cast against the previous minister Reza Fatemi Amin due to his lackluster performance and ineffective management of the industrial development.
In order to gain the vote of confidence from the Parliament, a nominee for a ministerial position needs to receive at least 51 percent of the vote.
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, made statements in January 2022 in which he urged Iranian officials to devise a strategic road map for the development of the country’s industries. He stated that governmental organizations should only supervise and assist economic activities rather than interfere with them.
