Asadollah Asadi, an Iranian ambassador, was recently freed after serving about five years in jail in Belgium and Germany on spurious “terror-related” allegations. Hossein Amirabdollahian, the Iranian minister of foreign affairs, praised Asadollah Asadi for his unwavering commitment to his country.
Amirabdollahian, together with a number of directors and diplomats from the ministry, greeted Asadi on Saturday when he arrived back in Iran after having spent about five years being unlawfully detained and imprisoned in Germany and Belgium. Asadi had returned home after having endured these conditions.

Amirabdollahian sent his congratulations to Asadi, his wife and children, as well as his coworkers at the Foreign Ministry, on the occasion of the diplomat’s triumphant and honorable return to his own country.

Asadi, for his part, provided a brief explanation of his time spent in detention and jail in Germany and Belgium. He also expressed gratitude for the arduous and effective efforts exerted by the government.
